Exclamation help! stranded 30 miles from home, oil leaking, white smoke

truck is stranded, can't see what's actually leaking. looks like it's oil coming from behind the fuel bowl somewhere. oil is sitting on the top of the fuel filter cap. any insight as to what it may be? middle man, messaging back and forth - to speak with stranded truck driver, please call 660-651-6505. otherwise, i'll be checking back every few minutes. thanks!

Relax for a minute. We have lots of MO. members but this is a bad time of day to be in trouble. How far are you from St. Louis?

You really did not give much info. Is the truck still running, or did it quit? If it has blown oil everywhere it will be low on the dipstick. At least check that and get back.

Blown HPOP line or seal is my guess from the description of the problem.
Not much to do but tow it in and get if fixed.
.
I could be 300 miles, not 30.

oil pressure gauge was reading normal before hand. truck started blowing white smoke, had really low power, then died and he had to coast into a gas station parking lot. truck will not restart now, so no way to check oil pressure. nothing is showing on the dipstick.

What Dan said, don't even dream about cranking it anymore. It's what I would have said too on my first reply if I'd had a little more info to work with.

I agree, if you have oil on top of your fuel filter lid, its spraying and likely a HPOP line that burst or blew off the port.

By looking at the top of the engine i still can't tell where it came from but one of the hpop lines seems very wobbly when i was looking around it.
The lines are braided.

Should i dump some cheap oil in it to get the level up to see exactly where it is coming from or just change both lines and change/add the right oil and see if she starts.

All you need to do is fill the HPOP and crank it over to find the leak. I wouldn't refill the entire crankcase right now. But, I WOULD pull the IDM relay to insure it doesn't start with no oil in it.

But, STAND BACK!

Question for the gurus, why all the white smoke? The last time I saw white smoke pouring out of my exhaust, I had blown my turbo seals and the smoke was oil hitting the exhaust. I had oil on the outside of the turbo, EBPV and a few other places but not as far forward as the fuel filter.

Don't forget to throw some plastic down on your driveway if you plan on making it leak again.

I know it's a pain, but look at the bright side. Your engine died because it was low on oil. That's better than being able to drive it with no oil in the engine and causing much bigger problems.

Who's the friend? Is he a member here? If so we need to say thanks to him.

If i can remember correctly when my tractor ran out of fuel(bad gauge) once i got fuel back in there i had to prime the system and smoke a little black and white smoke can out until it was totaly primed. I can remember white smoke but prolly both, long time ago..
