1997 Expedition Speaker Wiring

LAST EDITED ON 08-Jul-01 AT 05:15 PM (EST)[p]Any help greatly appreciated. Re: a 1997 Expedition with factory Permium Sound. Im installing a 310Watt Amp for sub woofers. The AMP requires RCA input from the stereo; however, the stock stereo does not have RCA outputs so I have to use a line converter. The input side of the line coverter box accepts two speaker inputs; I want to use the two rear door speakers. THE PROBLEM: From the termination block where the speaker wiring harness plugs in to the back of the stock radio how do I identify which wires go to the two rear speakers? I have pulled the rear door panels off to look at the speaker wires in hopes color code would match and it did not. Is there another place in the Expedition to find the streos low level (RCA) signal output?

Thank you for any assistance.

Heres a little trick that I learned.... Take a 9 volt battery and attach some speaker wire to to each post.... Then one by one touch the end of the speaker wire to the stereo end plug connector... The speakers will humm/virbate little... Thus enabling you to identify the wires.... Works for me.

Also remember, most of the time wire harness will have wires in groups. Red, yellow, black, blue,(keyed power, constant power, ground, power antenna aka...amp turn on wire) should be grouped together,or in the same row, the rest should be speakerwire, except for the illumination (dimmer)wire, and I can never remember what color it is. I think white. Also I'll take the batterie trick one step further. You can also find which is the positive and negative. If you have the two wires running directly to the speaker, if you put both wires on the pos. and neg. of the batterie the speaker will either push out or suck in. If it pushes out, the wire on the pos. side of the batterie is pos. If it sucks in, you know they are fliped. Hope that helps
