CD Player Cycles

I've got a 97 F250HD with the AM/FM single CD radio. Every now and then the CD player wants to start playing, even if there is no CD in it. It cycles over and over trying to get it to play. If I put a disc in, it will start playing. Occasionally, with a disc in it does the same cycle thing but won't play. Eject button won't get it out, it just keeps cycling. Any ideas on how to cure?

Thanks, Rob

Have exactly the same problem in a '96 EB Bronco. Hope someone will give us an idea before I spend more money. (The Ford replacement radio is in the $400-$450 range)

I never checked the price of a new one, but that doesn't surprise me. Does yours act up more when it's hot? I took mine out and opened it up one day. Hooked it back up and watched what was going on. There seems to be a cam along one side that actuates the CD mechanism and it appears the cam is worn on the shaft (plastic cam). Kind of hard to tell though without comparing to a good one. Hope someone can help us before we spend lots of money!

Actually, it's just the opposite... Mine "cycles" early in the day or if it has been sitting a long time. I'm getting ready to replace the speakers - front and rear - and then I'll begin looking into either a replacement, try for repair to the original or bite the bullet and buy Ford. The folks at Crutchfield did advise me that I either need a Ford AM/FM/CD or be very sure that whatever I get will use the built-in amplifier - they sell an adapter with their suggested radio.

I'll keep you posted on this board if you would like.

LAST EDITED ON 18-Jul-01 AT 12:04 PM (EST)[p]I am having the same problem with my 94 CD player. The cycling is due to a latching mechanism not being engaged by a coil. It should only activate for a second to latch. The coil is not being told electrically to activate. If I ground the coil, it will energize and the system will latch. Mine is intermittent.
I have not been able to locate a schematic so that I can determine what should turns the coil on.
If anyone knows where I can get a schematic I would greatly appreciate the help.

Ask for the schematic at your local garage or dealer service dept.

The dealer doesnt service the radio to that level. They don't have a schematic.
