ABS light stays on after alternator failure?
2000 f150 4.2 v6
hey everyone... well, my alternator started failing on my truck about 4 days ago. I had the battery light coming on and staying on for long periods of time. well, i decided to run it till my battery was juiced. right before all my electrical went dead today, my ABS light came on. replaced the alternator and everything's working fine, but the damn ABS is still on and won't go off. it's just the ABS light, no brake light or any others.
any idea what happened? did the sensor just blow maybe?

You can try disconnecting the battery for about 20 sec, and then reconnecting it. If that doesn't work, then you will have to take it to the dealer to get the light reset, or I believe it will reset itself after the truck is started and stopped so many times(I forget how many times, was it 40?). You more than likely have a low voltage error in the ABS computer.

thanks for the replies.
actually, i already had the battery disconnected a second time afterward. i had to pop a hot battery in to drive home. then everything got unplugged again to do the alternator swap. ABS light was still on after that too.
if low voltage can throw an error for the ABS then i'll wait it out a bit and see what happens. i do plenty of start / stop driving, so it shouldn't take too long to clear by itself if that's the case.
