Just the bulb or the entire headlight assembly?

The owner's manual probably details the steps to replace just the bulb. If the '97 is like the 2000 there will be a little door above the headlight that provides access to the connector, retainer ring, and bulb.

There are two access panels (one on each side) under the hood along the core support lift up the panel and you will see the plug and the plastic ring that retains the bulb. Just unplug the harness from the bulb, remove the ring and pull the bulb out. The left side is a little tight because of the battery but it's not hard at all.

Now my '97 Cougar is another story.

Thanks for the reply. Just took a good look and figured it out. Don't know why i was thinking 97 still had sealed beam heads.
