Recommendations on rotors and pads

My F250 7.3 (4WD) already has cross drilled and slotted rotors on the front (not sure of the pads) and breaks great even with a 7500# trailer. The rear needs pad replacement. Any thoughts on putting cross cut rotors on the rear end too? Has any seen any brake improvements? If so, any brand recommendations for rotors and pads (ceramics)??

I really prefer OEM pads. When you go to the dealer, they would normally sell you motorcraft, but I know for a fact that the OEMS last around 100k. We have 4 99-02 SD trucks, and not one of them needed brakes earlier then 100k. Once I replaced them with my what I usually used before (carquest, medium grades) and they were shot in less then 30k. OEMS cost more, but last 100k pretty much.

Thanks Mike. What about the bearings? Should those be done with the brake job? Just a repack or what? My F250 is like your's, a 2002.

I have run OEM, Autozone's best, and now have Hawks. The Hawks are by far the best and unless something changes, That's what will stay on there. Rotors are your choice, If you don't need them, then don't change them. I didn't have any wear or warping on the rear after 140k but the fronts were in bad shape, I replaced the fronts with PowerSlots Cryo rotors and Hawks pads all around. Had to retrain myself when braking with the added stopping power.

I only got 76k on my truck and I'm needing front rotors. I will be replacing my fronts with powerslot cyros and hawk pads after everything I've read on them! I also need driverside wheel bearings and passengerside balljoints, so I'm gonna replace everything at once, wheel bearings, seals(so hopefully my auto hubs will work right), ball joints, rotors and pads on both sides.

Which bearings were you refering to? The front is a zero maintenance unit hub, and the rears are oiled by the differential oil? If you havent done it though, it may be a good time to change your diff/tcase oils. Also, I have heard good things about the hawks aswell, just havent used them yet. Id be interested to see if they last in the 100k range, but that obviously would take time to tell lol. When we replace rotors, Ive had good results with the powerslot cryo units aswell.

I put EBC Green Stuff brake pads on front and rear, with the stock rotors, a few days ago. I don't know about their longevity, but they do stop much quicker than stock or Raybestos pads I had before. They supposed to be a ceramic /kevlar blend, made in the U.K., that reduces brake dust and have bite without being hard on the rotors.

In my experince with a whole fleet of 99-03 7.3L trucks, oem was by far junk. They had way too many problems with the rotors hard spotting and warping and the pads as well wouldnt last. The dealer is way to expensive for something i dont think is that great. If you could find a autoparts store that sells centric brake parts they are the best bang for the buck. They are a great premium rotor and pad setup and hold up well and preform well. It all depends what your doing with the truck on how long they last. They are a good candidate for 70-100K miles. Bendix is also a good choice just dont buy bendix global .

I should clarify and say Ive never bought OEM rotors, just pads. After my incident with the 30k pads, i chose to stick to the ~100k OEMs.

Go with the Powerslot cryos and the Hawk pads. You will not be disappointed. I have them and have never stopped better in my PSD before. They work great while towing my 7k trailer also.

I have been running Carquest severe duty rotors and pads. Only have about 20k on them, but they seem to working quite well.
