I have a 77 f350 with a 460 engine. I was replacing the head to manifold gasket and found that there was no donut gasket in the flange to manifold connection. It is a flare type connection and was not sure if there was supposed to be one but it sounds like it may be leaking a bit.
Is there supposed to be a donut there or not?
thanks
steve
I believe the later 70 engines, have a cast in flare/donut which is nice! Seems to me the older style engines used a replaceable donut.
As long as there are no cracks and the studs are good, just apply some muffler cement to the flare and assemble, then let dry.
I have seen muffler shops do this on them style and it will work for awhile!
Good luck! I hate exhaust leaks, heh

Heres a link to the photos from ebay. I just bought it in N Carolina and drove it back to texas. The only problem I had was that it started overheating about 50 miles into the trip. I changed the thermostat and it ran fine the whole way.

Just to set the record straight, 1973/74 and 1975 F100/350's w/460 engines assembled before serial # W00,001 do use a donut gasket (C8SZ-9450-A) between the manifold and the inlet pipe.
1975 F100/350's w/460's assembled after serial #W00,001 and 1976/79's do not.
C8SZ-9450-A .. Gasket-Manifold to Inlet Pipe ~ 2 13/32" I.D. x 3 1/8" O.D. x 13/16" thick.

Thanks for the info Numbers and everyone else.
Yes, I called him after the auction and got it for $5500. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but it looked like such a nice truck in the pics and I was not dissapointed when I got there. The truck is nicer in person, drove like a new truck all the way home (1200 miles) . He was asking 8000. but his wife was kicking it out of the garage and he had to sell, the guy was in his late 70"s and did'nt drive anymore, but you could tell he did'nt want to sell, I thought he was going to cry when I got in to drive off.
thanks to all and glad to be in the forum

Oh yeah I also have a 1975 scs without a motor in pretty decent shape that I bought just before I found this one, and it is for sale cheap.
