is this a BOSS or a CJ?
so i was at a garage sale the other day and saw a motor sitting there. guy said it was a 351 boss, but those are super rare and worth their weight in gold so i knew it wasnt that, but the breadbox size ports in the head said it has to atleast be a cleavland. it all looked good, so i payed him 100 bucks and hauled it home!
Can someone tell me what i got?
Here is all the numbers i can find off of it!
Block casting numbers:
D2AE-CA
2B29
Intake:
DIZE-9425-BB
13726548
Heads:
2A12
Also inside of a little circle are the numbers:
1
9 3
7 5
THANKS!!!!

ok, now im confused. d2ae says its a d-1970's 2-1972 a-fullsize e-engine
and where it says d2ae-ca is in the 351 boss-351 cj column.... if its a 72 then it could just be the 4V in the colum right above that one?
Where do you get that its a 71? that casting number was only the 4v in 71? but all three in 72 on?
is it just a regular 4v?

The Boss 351 and HO have adjustable rocker arms. If the pedestals are slotted it's a run o' the mill 4v head.
If the pedestals are machined for adjustable rockers then you'll have to pop the head to see for sure what you've got. The Boss 351 has pop-up pistons, the HO's are flat tops; Boss has small chambers, HO has open chambers. Or check the casting number on the underside.

Thats why the numbers are a guideline. Same cast# could be diff years. If you research enough you can narrow it down. Date code on some is on block, drivers side in front of head. You never really know till you tear em down. The more experienced members here probably have half of this info memorized.

My Ford ref sez: D0AE-J & D2AE-AC = 1970/74 351C 2V or 4V (not the 351CJ nor the 351 Spec w/4 bolt mains).
Block = 2B29 = February 29, 1972.
Crank ID number for D2AE-CA = 4MA / Crank part number: D2AZ-6303-A / 351C 2V & 4V = 1972/74.
Heads = 2A12 = January 12, 1972.
Inspect the valley area very carefully for sand casting holes.
Ford had a problem with these engines in this area. They already had a product available used to repair things like this.
The repair was to pour a metallic plastic compound into the holes...I chit you not!
Here's the part number & description: C6AZ-19554-A .. Metallic Plastic / Consistes of one can of resin, one can of hardener.
