f-350 diesel oil leaks

I just bought a 2002 f350 diesel yesterday it has 46,000 miles on it and looks awesome but this morning i noticed a drop of oil is this normal. Im a women and I bought this on my own I need to know if the dealer took of advantage of me. I wanted to know what others thought about this year (02) I have been told it was better then the 04-05. Also I have been told the 7.3 has had oil problems any truth in this

Welcome to FTE Bridget. Glad to have another gal on here.

I would take the truck back to the dealer and make them fix the leak. You have so many days to bring the truck back if you don't like it, by law. It is 3 days in La.

Yes, we do get a few oil leaks on the 7.3s. Give the dealer a call and see if they will fix. If not and you keep the truck, we will help you find the leak and tell/show you how to fix it.

As long as it's a 7.3, you have the best engine ford ever made.

Where is the oil coming from? Where did you see the drops? Dripping from the inspection cover for the trans? If so, climb up on top and see if there is oil in the valley of the motor. Take note if more oil is at the rear of the valley or the front and then come back and fill us in and we will help you diagnose this.

Also, like Rick said, see if the dealer will fix it. Another thing you could try is see if the original warranty is still good. Motor warranties are 6 years or 100,000 miles. It all depends on when your struck was first sold and they can tell that by the VIN. I had HPOP o-rings replaced that way.

I thought it was 5 years 100,000 miles.

welcome to FTE Bridget..listen to the guy's above about the oil leak...all the super duty 7.3's are good..01 had a diff diod in the trans that didnt pan out and the 99's to 00 had forged rods..they went out to .. but that isnt a problem unless you want over 400 HP...other then that there all the same..if you want to check your truck out more..click this link..it will tell what to look for when buying one of these trucks...

Welcome to FTE. You don't have to feel bad about the dealer trying to take advantage of a women. They try to take advantage of men too.

If you can take the truck back to where you bought it and get the leak fixed free, then great. If not we'll help you fix it yourself. We will probably use terms and abbreviations you may not be familiar with so just ask if anything confuses you.

I have an 02 truck and don't have any oil leaks. The first step will be to find out where the oil is coming from, and to make sure it is oil and not some other fluid. 46,000 miles on that truck is nothing. Sounds like you found yourself a good one.

Wow

Thanks I must have found the right site to be on. I purchased a 2 year warranty for the truck when I bought it. It covers everything! I took the truck to the dealer this morning and they told me that when they got the truck on there lot it had a crankshaft seal leak and that they fixed.(funny they didnt tell me that when i bought it) I can see under that there was a leak at some point. The fluid that dropped out is for sure oily but it is not real dark. kinda clearish. It is a 7.3. I was told by several people that was the best diesel engine and to avoid the 04. I guess it had problems. What type of leak would come from the front of the truck? It is not coming from the oil pan container its in front of that and higher up in engine. Also what is crankshaft seal is that bad?

Good thing is the warranty. The bad thing, the dealer will throw parts at the engine and hope they get it right. Get them to fix it, and hopefully it will be good after that.

EDIT: You did find the right site. Stick around and we will have you doing lots of cool things (mods) to your truck. I hope you have a big purse.

clear would be fuel..look down deep in the valley of the motor and see if you see any thing wet in there...im not sure how much you know..so i posted a pic of the valley..the turbo is out of this one..i painted mine just for this reason...oil and fuel show up nice when a leak pops up..
