When You Get A Chance, Check Youtube And Type In 2009 F150 Vs Tundra. There Should Be 2 Clips Of A 2009 Ford Vs A 5.7 Tundra And A Chevy. According To The Clips It Was During A Dealer Invite/demo At The Michigan Proving Grounds. According To The Guys Filming The Clips The Ford Won Hands Down? I Know These Things Can Be Deceiving, But It Was Interesting To See.
The absolute most the '09 F150 could hope for would be to "keep up" with the 5.7L Tundra.
There's no way it's dusting one, unless they managed to drop 500 lbs. of curb weight and coax at least 350 HP out of the updated 5.4.
I don't see it happening on the freeway, from a roll... the tundra's torque is much higher in the rpm band. off the line, I'd believe it, with the much better gearing in the F150...
hard to tell what kind of trucks each were too; a 2wd short bed F150 will probably run away from a crewcab 4x4 tundra even today...

I am NOT a Toyota fan by any stretch, but they came up with a nice powertrain with the 5.7/6-speed combo. It's just how it is.
I've seen stock crew cab Tundras running 14.5 @ 90+ at the track.
According to the manufacturer ratings the 5.7 has a torque peak 150 rpm lower than the 5.4 3Vs. However, I've seen a few Tundra dyno sheets that show torque peak occurs at almost 5,000 rpm, but that doesn't matter if 90% is available from 1,500 rpm.
The Tundra also lays down over 300 rwhp bone stock.
Go drive one, you'll see what I mean. For a non-"special edition" full size truck, the Tundra has a nasty 1st gear pull all the way from idle to redline.
they made a fast drivetrain, but I have my doubts on the 90% tq at 1500 rpm deal. The dynos i've seen too, are peaking at close to 5000 rpm, and the way they were going, they lost more than 10% of the peak torque before before 5000 rpm in the dyno, so the 1500 rpm figure is way off...

Yeah, since I drive a Tundra I can comment on how fast they are. They will indeed blow the doors off the new '07 and 08 Civic SIs with the exhaust. I did it just the other night.
And here's with a 112 Ranch hand and about 120 lbs of EXTRA tire mass, plus the extra rolling resistance:
It's time dropped a hair, but not too bad.
With that said, those videos aren't really a fair comparison b/c you don't start 2 car lengths behind somebody and race them like that, or 2 car lengths ahead like the Ford is to the Tundra. Line 'em up and race 'em. The 4.30s in the Tundra make for a very fast and short first gear. It climbs to redline like a raging bull. It'll spin my 285/65/18 BFG AT T/A KO's like it's its job lol. I really hope the Ford can beat the Tundra, BUT, I just want gobs of torque. I personally don't care about speed. If I can merge onto the highway safetly, pass those semis, and beat the occasional fart can, then I'm plenty happy. Hell, my '98 Expedition did all of the above.

Ford did drop the weight by almost 500 lbs on the non-crew models. Crew models are longer than before, yet weigh about the same.
I've stated before, I believe the HP numbers leaked onto the web is disinformation, just as the towing capability disinformation Ford put out embarrased the crap out of Nissan.

Look, I'm gonna have to ask you to go ahead, just come back another time. I got a meeting with the Bob's in a couple minutes.

I hope you're right, but Ford GT aside, I don't remember when the last time they put out an impressive engine...

Yea, in actuality it probably makes nowhere near 90% of its peak at 1,500, it's still very torquey down low though. It's not as peaky as a 5.7 Hemi, way more power down low and it really does make good power across the whole tach.
I did not like the Tundra at all, but it has an impressive powerplant.
