helper springs

i just bought a 03' supercab shortbox FX4 5.4 w/ 48k. it sits dead level when empty and all suspension is factory. i hooked my dump trailer to it and the rear sank at least 3.5". the helper springs were not even contacting their pads yet. i know i can install air bags, and if i have to i will, but can i try putting a 2" or 2.5" block under the helper instead of the stock 1".
thanks

Welcome to FTE!

Yes, the easiest would be to install a set of F-350 blocks and U-bolts. They are 2 inches taller.

Sounds like he wants to space the camper spring on top up so it hits the pads sooner.

The camper spring was never intended as an overload spring, it was for stability, kinda to limit the travel on one side if it swayed over to that side. But lots of guys install bigger bump stops on the frame brackets so they hit sooner. It is probably a lot easier than trying to install a block. YOu have to have a block with tabs on the side to keep that spring in line, otherwise it will twist.

Some guys use the energy suspension 9.9101 I think and fill them with polyurethane plastic to stiffen them up some. There is also a (few?) company that sells bump stops specifically for that application. I forget the name, but they were expensive IMO.
