I'm doing the rear brakes on my 2wd 66 F100 long bed. I ordered new drums from LMC and the ones they sent me didn't match the ones I took off the truck. I went to the local NAPA and the ones they had listed looked identical to the LMC drums. The problem is that the ones I took off the truck are 3.5" deep and the replacements are 2.5"deep with a different flange. The drums that LMC sent me would work but the flange doesn't go back to meet the backing plate and leaves a 1/4' gap Click here for pictures.*
The rusty one is the one that I took off. Does anyone recognize the old drums?
I thought the rear end on this truck was original but now I'm not so sure..
FWIW the shoes measure 1.75" wide.
Lugnut - Make another comparison with the drums for a 1972 F-100, and then again for a 1976 F-100. They had wider rear brakes. It is possible the entire rear end was switched out, or as in the case of my truck, the rear brakes were changed out for the later, wider ones.
I used the rear brakes from a '76 F-150, and the axle shafts from a '72 F-100 to make it all work right.
ND: Are the rear drums the same for '72 as for '76? That may also make a difference.

That may also make a difference.
1968/79 F100's & 1975/79 F150's have 11 x 2 1/4" rear brake shoes.
The drum surface width is 2 1/2"
D4TZ-1126-A .. Rear Brake Drum / Fits: 1968/74 & 1975 F100/150's before serial number A25,000. (D4TZ-1126-A replaces C8TZ-1126-A)
E4TZ-1126-B .. Rear Brake Drum / Fits: 1975/79 F100/150's after serial number A25,000 (E4TZ-1126-B replaced D6TZ-1126-A).
D4TZ-1126-A is Obsolete = I found a few NOS in case anyone is interested / E4TZ-1126-B is still available.
================================================== ============================== NOTE: D4TZ-1126-A is NOT the same as C4TZ-1126-A mentioned above in post #4. = Two different part numbers for two different drums for two different vehicles.

Part Number Research available for the following: Trucks: 1928/2002 / Cars: 1928/2000
The brake shoes are 1-3/4". I bought new replacements (as well as slave cylinders and all the springs) by ordering the numbers in the catalog and they match the shoes that were on the truck. It's the drums that don't seem to match the part number specified. Is the part number stamped on the rear end? maybe determining if that is the correct rear would be the first thing I should do.
Lugnut - Compare your old drum with the two year ranges or types ND listed.
The details of the swap I am describing below are very complex, but I'll try to keep it simple:
It may be that you have a '66 rear axle, with '66 rear brakes, but with '68 - '72 axle shafts - those are the parts with the studs pressed into them.
The '68 - '72 shafts look identical to the '67 and earlier, but they extend about 1/4 or 1/2 inch out further from the backing plate than the '66 axle shafts.
You have to use a wider drum to account for the longer extending axle - and I am thinking this may have been what happened.
Someone may have swapped a '68-'72 rear axle into the truck, and kept the original '66 brakes.
Or something similar, who knows.
At any rate, if there is a mixing of parts from different years, your best way to find a fit is to compare parts side by side.
Hope this helps, and best of luck.
