So, comparison questions. (was probably done)

I'm to lazy to look. And I know you guys all love me so much anyways.

So, we've talked about the newer 7.3 vs the old 7.3 PSD.

But whats the difference between the 94-97 and the 99-2003(?)

I love them new windows on the newer style trucks, hehe. But i'm just so hot for that old look.
Finding the older truck looks like it might be such a challenge, I want to know my pro's and cons before I go looking some more.
Specially after looking in the radiator of the last truck and seeing the coroded core and no fluid. hahahha. Like a chasm in there.

I belive the newer 7.3's come with a 6 speed standard as well? 5OD with low? Does anyone know the final gear on the OD? PSD T15 is .71. M5OD is .74 and the rest of the T15's I belive are .73.
(whoa! big difference! haha)

Bring on your knowlege, and let me challenge your patience. i mean, uh brain.

The main difference between the two is obviously the body style.
Not sure what year, but Ford switched from the E40D auto to the 4R100 and the ZF5 manual to the ZF6 manual. i think that came with the body style change.
I think there are a few changes in the motor as well, but i dont know those.
Drive ratios between the 5 and 6 speed manuals are almost identical on the ends, the 6 speed is a little closer inbetween gears.

I know the 6 speed is mainly a 5 speed with an extra low gear, well the one I rode in anyways.
The only difference i know for sure is the front end setup, they use the bearing sets, instead of individual bearings.

That's true between newer 5 and 6 speeds. i do believe that the OBS 5 speed has a granny gear. but i dont know for sure, because, unfortunately i have an auto.
Dont know about the bearings.

Nice spam there. =)

The ZF5 has a scary short first speed. I think the 6 speed has a bit taller 1st, but a super short L gear like the ZF5.

Yea. I know the engine differences though.
Basically, different turbo, HPOP and different fuel pump.
But were not here to discuss that.

I thought you were looking for a comparison...
still trying to find the gearing charts. cant remember where i hid the link.
Edit: you were looking for pro's and con's?
Pro's: better looking truck IMO
Con's: slightly (and i mean very slightly) less active aftermarket...

My 5 speed has a VERY low first. I can't imagine one lower than that. Then again I have 4.10 gears to go with it.

Oh yeah, the Splits started in '97 on Cali models only then in '99 they were in all trucks.

And the OBS don't have CAC's either but there is plenty of room for a 6.blow cooler in there. LOL

OBS 250 4x4 have the TTB front end, SD's get a solid axle.
SD's you get more options on cab and bed choice
SD's are tad roomier inside than OBS

Yep, started in 99 and is on all SD's.
Forgot in my last post- SD's give you the option of ESOF 4x4 (which may or may not tickle your fancy)

I love my SD, but I'm still an OBS guy at heart. I wish I could have one of each

ESOF?

I should put in what i'm looking for here as well, so people got an understanding.

4x4 PSD, Cab lights, manuel transmission.
Those are my requirements.
I'd love some creature comforts to go with it though.
