Question 99 E-150 hard start

I was helping my friend work on his 99 E-150 4.2L v6 with 105,000 miles. he turned the key one day and it only clicked, so he put a new battery in it, then the same thing it only clicked. I came out and put a starter in, it turned over slowly and stopped. I pulled the plugs, they were original and bad! i decided to change the oil too, when i pulled the drain plug, about a quart of water came out first, then the oil. I refilled it with new oil and filter, cranked it a few times with the sparkplugs out and it turned over fine. then i put in the new plugs and wires, it turned over attemped to start, and when i tried again it turn over slowly once and stopped. I would assume the coolant maybe be original as well. any ideas?

You can do a search here, many threads over the years, but I can pretty much bet you have a leaking lower intake manifold gasket and possibly a leaking timing chain cover gasket.

I strongly suggest you do not try to start the engine again until you get the problem checked and corrected.
Further attempts can result in severe engine damage.

Here is some more info:
