HI

I am looking for an 03 or 04 navigator. Does the tow package come stock on the 03 and is an option on the 04? Thats what I've seen online.

What does the full tow package entail on these trucks? Also, how can i easily tell if the truck I go to look at has the full "heavy duty tow package"??

i think if it has the 7 pin plug then it is the tow package. if it has a flat 4 then it don't. i may be wrong

 

If it's like the Explorer, a 2" receiver (rather than the 1-1/4") means it's got the tow package.

I have a 2003 Expedition just got 1 month ago... it came with the 4 pin and 7 pin and the trailer hitch from the factory, I believe that any expy comes with 4 pin but if they come with the class III/IV hitch then it comes with a 7 pin also. My question is how do I know if I have the heavy duty package? Also did 2003 come with the electronic brake control or is there wiring for it underneath the dash?

 

AFAIK, the only vehicles with the factory brake controller, are the Super Duty (250 and higher) pickups. The Expedition will have a connector under the dash if it has a factory heavy duty tow package. I have found this to be true on 99 and up Expeditions. I personally use this as my first sign to see if the truck has a factory tow. Many people can add on a 2" or 7 pin wiring if the truck did not come with one, but very few will wire in a factory harness for the brake controller.

All Ford trucks after 1999ish have brake controller wiring preinstalled. The harnesses are all the same between models. With the factory tow package they'd replace the rear light harness with one that included the trailer plug, but all trucks will have the trailer lights wired up to that last harness. The brake controller is the same way, wired up all the way to the dash. If you get the tow package they'll furnish you with the appropriate harness pigtail to connect the controller to the dash harness. But the wiring from the cab to the tail lights is all the same.

 

I purchased a used Expy 04 last year. From research I did, all have a tow package installed, but if it has the factory installed 4-pin and 7-pin, it's the heavy duty tow package. I was at first wondering why some I was looking at had only 4-pin, and others had both --- quick research on Ford Website for towing packages showed that is a quick way to tell.
