Chevy engines are no more reliable than Ford engines. And if you think Fords rust less than Chevys, well, you need to visit the great northeast sometime. Everyone has made good engines and duds (Ford had the 400M, Chevy had the 307). It makes NO SENSE to go through the trouble of installing a brand X in a Ford truck of this vintage since darn near any displacement engine you desire from Ford will go in there with little trouble. This may not have been the case "back in the day" when people were rodding the fat fender 'effie' trucks. You definately see it in the marketplace with the 'slicks' as a brand X powered truck is a very tough item to sell and will get no respect at any Ford meet. But, people will do dumb things no matter what you tell them.
Now, if you've bought one already ruined like our earlier poster, that's another story.

see the thing is.. i didnt buy my truck for re sale... i bought my truck because i like the body style... and can see the truck haulin me around for a long time to come... i dont plan on selling it... i plan on keeping it until the day i die... and the day i am under the ground... the goverment or my kids can do what they like with the truck... in 60 or 70 or more years, its not like my truck is gonna have a re-sale value all that high...[maybe they will be able to trade it in on a prius or something...] but as long as im alive... its staying in my name...

In case you lost count he owns 3 Ford trucks, maybe 4th one in garage can't quite tell, a VW, and a Nova. I like what he did with the inner fenders to give it a one of look. Everything about the truck looks like he took his time with it. The dual master cyclinder looks like the one I have. Probably a CPP corvette style with dual outlets to plumb the brakes however you want.

What was stock in a '64 F100? A 292?
So swapping in anything other than a bigger y-block is just about the same amount of work, be it an FE, 385, old Rambler motor, whatever.
So 12 years ago, we may have seen the beginnings, maybe, of the "FE revival". So the FE would have been a good choice, but maybe a little digging for a good block and diy for a runner/firebreather.
The 385. Do you think there is a SCJ or TJ 429 left in the scrapyard? That leaves you will lo-po sleepytime pillowbarge motors & low compression truck engines. Find a good one and buy the right parts. There are no hi-po factory 460s, although I know some are really excited by the PI version with the oil cooler or whatever.
The 454: TONS of factory hi-po, crate & firebreather motors. Makes it an easy choice for some. (if that's what this is, and not a sleepytime pillowbarge smogger itself....)
Looks like a nice job was done on the truck. If someone likes a rig like this, I certainly wouldn't call them an idiot.
