56 ford f600 cummins converson

Since my last update I have installed the front clip, had a 18in driveshaft made to go from the 6sp fuller to the 4sp aux, worked on the interior, installed yblock water temp sender, heater, heater hoses, fuel sending unit so the stock ford gauges would work. No space for intercooler in front of radiator so I'm thinking of mounting it under the hood above the engine and using a factory hood scoop off a f700-800 big job to feed it cool air. Anybody know where I might find a hood scoop? Thanks for looking

I am getting ready to haul my diesel56 home. My buddy put an international in it instead of the cummings. I am not sure if that is what I wanted to do. I am now going to do the body and paint and at least it starts and runs. I wish he could have finished it complete. OH-WELL!!
I had a hood with air-scoop from a f700 and it is on a truck I traded. See if he will sell just the hood/scoop....Bill

56 ford f600 cummins converson

First test drive today! ran engine about 30min, drove around the block twice then a 2mile loop to run through all the gears....top speed with 6.33 gears 45mph. Im still looking for an Eaton 15040s with 3.36 ratio hyd. brakes and 6 hole bud wheels so I can drive at 60mph 1750-1800 rpm. 3 problems found, tach and speedo not working, leaking fuel filter. tach mag sensor faulty, speedo I don't know yet ... its a new cable with custom ends. order fuel filter

I finally found a dana 80 with 3.31 ratio out of a fed ex truck it has the correct 6 lug hubs so I can use my stock wheels. I'll be replacing the eaton 6.33/8.81 2sp. The dana will allow me to cruise at 60mph at 1750rpm. I hope to get this in the truck in late May when I get some time off work. (pictures in my gallery)

Installed the dana 80 but need to get two longer ubolts before I test drive. I worked on a driveline disc brake, made the disc out of 3/8in plate, mounted it on the rear flange of the aux. trans. bought a MB 2 caliper from The Street Rod manufacturing Co. Inc. Made a bracket to mount behind the aux. trans. Waiting on clevis yokes to make linkage to the stock floor mounted parking brake handle...... not having any luck posting the pictures sorry.

Driving the truck with the 3.31 gears is a dream come true! I was able to drive on the freeway without holding up traffic.. NOTE ... If you put a late model rear end with disc brakes on your truck that was 4 wheel drum brakes. You need to remove the check valve from the master cyl. because it keeps 10lbs of pressure in the lines and will cause the disc brakes to drag.( I found out the hard way) After removing the check valve install inline ck. valves 10lb for drum and 2lb for disc Mid Fifty sells the inline ck. valves and most speed shops have them too.

first mpg check = 20 mpg

Did my first mileage ck yesterday, combination of around town, stop n go, and freeway with 3/4 cord of firewood on the return trip. 141 miles , burned 7 gal. = 20 mpg. Not bad for a 10k truck I'm very happy with that. I was only getting 10 mpg with the 272 y-block.

vacuum pump

Installed a gear driven vacuum pump from a dodge truck (cummins powered) for my hydrovac brakes. It produces 27in vac ... much better than the 15in vac that the electric pump made. Now I can hit the brakes repeatedly and not deplete the vac. reservoir. I'm very happy with this modification.

2nd mileage check

14.6 MPG Took 2 months to rack up 303 miles. No freeway all in town, multiple short trips to hardware store, parts house, ect. I was having to much fun mashing on the go pedal and shifting gears!
