I have recently acquired a '48 8BA, v8. It came off of a F5, and has a six bladed fan on it. Is six blades normal? I've never seen a six bladed fan on a flathead, but then I don't get out much. I'm under the impression that its a '49 late model. Thanks, in advance.
ego, yeh, thats normal for a big truck. gotta keep em cool. usually would have larger water pumps and bigger radiator also. have 6 blade in my 42, it's loud when rolling down road but never gets over 175 degrees.
Hey guys, since I have you on the line I need some professional advise. I have a '48 Ford F1 with a 226 6 cylinder, with a 3 speed floor shift, top loader. The #G8T722 is on the top and 59T-7006 on the right side. I have a flathead V8 239 that I want to put in the truck. It appears the V8 will bolt to the three speed and is it what I really want to do. Meaning, will I get the satisfaction I want when I get on it. The V8 came out of of a F5 if it matters. Thanks. Ralph
ego, haven't been on this forum for a couple weeks, so just reading post. what are your expectations for f-1? v-8 will give more horsepower but not necessarilly more torque. is 6-cyl dead? if truck is daily driver/toy either engine will suffice. will 3-speed be enough or will you need a LOW 1st gear for working truck? you can find some exellent trans info in 48-60 forum

I'm going to drive it , every chance I get. The six has been completely rebuilt and runs like a sewing machine. I just want a V8 in it cause I like the sound. Thanks for the info on the oil pan. I didn't think of that. Ralph
What are you going to do with the 226? I may be too far away to make it worth my while, shipping is probably too high but it is worth the question. I wouldn't mind having another one as a back up. I like my 226.
