Axel whine

Anyone have any ideas on how to stop or reduce axel whining? I have already changed the 90 wt gear oil and it did not help. Are there any additives or synthetics that will reduce the whine?

Nope. Once an axle starts to make noise, its too late. Remove the cover and carefully inspect the ring gear teeth for wear pattern or damage. If none found, its a bad bearing.

What type of truck? My 250 had a whine and I thought it was in the rear so I changed all of the drive line fluids and it was still there but it was time for them to be changed anyway. The whine ended up to be the center hanger bearing on the driveshaft. Brought it in for some other warranty work and the replaced that as well. It went at about 85,000 miles.
