Son drove 87 ranger with the front hubs engaged. Four wheel drive was not but the hubs were locked. Went about 25 miles. They were hot when he turned it off. Anything ruined? Repack bearings?
You should be able to drive it with the hubs locked and the transfer case in 2wd and not hurt anything. I know several poeple that drive all winter with the hubs locked in 2hi.
I used to drive all winter with hubs locked. Hubs are to save fuel... Sometimes it is so nice to lock hubs when you got in stuck in deep puddle with mud and water.... gee.......
If they are getting to hot and the bearings are bad, it has nothing to do with the locked hubs. Wheel bearings can go bad and they are under load all the time regardless of the hubs.

I have put over 800 miles on my 4x4 Ranger, and just found out 2 days ago the hubs have been engaged the entire time (in 2 hi) and no damage has occurred.
