1995 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke, have questions.
First off, hi to everyone. I am new, and this is my first post. My husband has been working on this truck last year.
He had to put a new wiring harness on there, part of it was missing. He got it running, and the guy he's working on it for took it to the Ford dealership, and it said it had a busted piston. My husband then brought the truck back up here, tore the motor down, and replaced the piston. It sat for months before it was put back together. It only starts with starting fluid now, and only runs for about 15-20 minutes, then it cuts off, and you cannot start it for a few hours. We replaced the cam sensor, and had to replace the starter. He burned the first one up trying to get the truck cranked. We cannot get it to run long enough to get it put on the computer. Our next step is we are going to replace a computer, mounted on the driver side firewall. How many computers does this thing have, where are they located? Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.
When he started working on it, the truck ran, but smoked like a freight train. That was the first time we had it up here. When it came back up here to replace the piston, I drove it home, and the drive was 45 minutes. Had power and all. But now, not running long enough to even try to figure it out. When we can get it to start now, there is either a little white or blue smoke.

allow me to help with abbreviations... (Geez action... )
hp res= high pressure oil pump resevoir
the o-ring he's reffering to would be part of the injectors
IPR= Injection pressure regulator.
I'll search for Tim's (tjbeggs) picture with all of this labeled...

See if you can post a picture of the "spring, screw and tiny filter". Someone here will identify it for you.

If I had a picture of it, I sure would post it. ( The spring that he lost. ) All I he is saying that he found it in one of the valve covers, or had it in there, and lost it. We went to Ford, and they could not find what he was looking for.
The hood was off of the truck for 3 months, and it rained. He wasn't thinking about that. They are right now going to replace the Injector Driver Module. He thinks that may have went bad with the rain. ( I think it is the Injector Driver Module. What they are replacing looks like one I saw on the internet, and it was removed from the driver side fender well.
As for the fuel pressure check, we have not been able to locate a fuel pressure tester for this truck. We have tried, to no avail. Is there any other way to test it w/o having the tester?
Where is the main computer located on this truck? He is very good at fixing motors, but this is the first time he ever worked on a diesel. And, he cannot find the main computer.
You guys are the best in helping me, errr, him or us. I'll post and let you know what happens when he puts the IDM on.
Oh yeah, trust me, if I knew anything about a motor, I sure would be out there working on them right next to him. LOL

IDM is on the drivers side fender
PCM is located below the Brake master cylinder. It is slid in thru the firewall. All you can see under the hood is the wiring harness that plugs into it and two bolts that hold it in there. You can see the back side of it if you remove the e-brake pedal assembly. It comes out thru the firewall into the engine compartment.
Fuel pressure can be checked by using a regular tire gauge. There is a fitting on the drivers side of the fuel pressure regulator that is moubted on the side of the fuel filter bowl. You don't want more than 80 psi and I would gues not less than 45-50 psi.
