acetone added to fuel for mileage??
any body heard of this yet. a fellow at work told me someone is manufacturing a device that apparently injects acetone in small amounts into an engines fuel injection system thats supposed to drastically increase fuel mileage. like 50% im finding this hard to believe. supposed to use 1 gallon acetone to every 20 gallons gas?? I think this fellow was sniffin to much of the acetone maybe im wrong. my first thoughts are if it indeed works what about your o-rings in the injectors how they gonna like the acetone? and engine combustion temps scare me too. any body else know??

It gets discussed every time the price of gas goes up.

A buddy that i work with does this on every fill up, but it's more like 1-2 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons diesel. Don't quote me on that, but that's what he does. From what i hear, it keeps things clean as far as soot and what not. It also helps with the mixture of water in the fuel, burns off instead of missing. If you hear anymore, give me a shout.

yes they do, but it's impossible for it to seperate all of the water from the fuel, and if you have drained your seperator before, you would've noticed that there was an awful lot of fuel and not so much water. If acetone will help mix and burn that water without wasting the fuel you lose from the seperator and on top of that help clean and possibly improve fuel consumption, what will it hurt as long as you don't over concentrate the diesel and acetone mix.

I think maybe you're thinking of ethanol and gasoline engines. Ethanol (and methanol, for that matter) will bind with the water and allow it to be burned in a gasoline engine.
Any water in a diesel engine is very bad. Water does not compress. Water in the fuel will do bad things like blow head gaskets, bend valves, break rings, ventilate heads, ventilate blocks, bend rods and generally ruin things.
