Hi,

I have blown the subwoofer on my '98 Expedition. I have removed the panel cover and all the screws on the speaker, but I cannot pull it out! Something is holding it back. I can spin it around, but it will not come out. Can anyone tell me the procedure to take it out and repleace it?

The subwoofer is held in place by the screws around the edge and one lare screw through the rear of the enclosure. To remove the subwoofer, you need to remove the entire enclosure (holding the amp and sub). To do this, you need to remove the interior panel to access the three bolts holding in the enclosure. Hope this helps. It took me quite a while to figure it out. Then, I discovered that there are very few places that sell an 8" 2-ohm sub to replace the OEM onw with. Ford will not sell only the sub. They want to sell the entire enclosure, amp, and sub (about $425). There are some aftermarket subs, but you need to search. I called the Ford parts guy and he gave me the number of a shop in town that will sell just the sub. Good luck.

 

Yeah that screw in the back had me too. I didnt blow my sub but I removed it to see what I can do for an upgrade. I was thinking of putting a better 8" in there and running an aftermarket amp and use it for mid bass. I am going to see about posibly making some door pods for mid bass.
