Hi all:
I've noted that the E250/350's seem to sit somewhat higher off the frame than my '02 E150....is that correct, or is the suspension just higher?

If it is a body lift, would it just take some taller body mounts to get an E150 body up a tad?

What about bumpers--being bolted to the frame--are there different brackets or something?

Im pretty sure its just the suspension thats taller. Ive always wondered if it would be possible to take the front coils from a e250/350 and rear leafs to use it as a lift kit for a e150.

 

Check out the frame depth, its something like 6 inches on the E-150 and 9 inches on the E-250/350. That will raise the body 2-3 inches alone, plus the spring pack is a lot taller as well. I put a 3 inch body lift on my '86 E-150 about 12 years ago, easy to do and a lot of benefits like better access to the spark plugs, more cooling air over the engine, 3 inches more between the road noise/hot exhaust/muffler clearance, etc.

Hello! New member. Interested in photos of your van body lift. I have a 1981 E150 that someone put E250 springs all 4 corners. Sits nice, even a slight forward slant for aero-dynamics. usmc@catskill.net Thanks!

 

I sold my 87 for scrap the computer started to smoke and make funny noises. I do have pics of another members lifted E-150. I will forward pics and info. I bought a 92 E-150 Club Wagon for less than it would have cost me to fix the 87.

Hey Swede- I would send you some pics of my lifted '86 E-150 but they are on another computer that's about 10 years old and packed away in a storage unit. I bought universal nylon 3 inch lift blocks off the internet. Measured the stock bolts running thru the mounts and added 3 inches. Then I bought these three inch longer bolts (something like 7-8 inches long) from a bolt/nut house which you can only find in bigger towns (look up nevada nut & bolt for example). You can also find them on the internet these days with some searching. For safety I went up one size on the bolt from stock. Then I clamped each retaining nut (pull one body mount apart and you'll see what I mean) in a vise and ran a "one size larger" tap thru them. Also used bigger fender washers under the bolt heads where stress on the body was increased to spread out the larger load. There are details like the bumpers, fuel filler,
shift linkage, and others to work out, but they were not hard. The steering linkage has enough telescoping length that no mods were needed except the floor pass thru flange.
