Head gasket in a can?

Since my thread about my engine isn't getting much attention I figured I would start a new one to ask. Is that stuff you pour in the cooling system run the engine up to temp then flush the cooling system and is suposed to fix cracked blocks head gaskets and cavitation any good? Does it work?

I was wondering since i have virtualy no extra money to buy parts for my truck and no other form of transportation. After i pay rent I will have ten bucks till pay day.

George, those things are a waist in my opinion. Yeh, there are "stopleaks" that will stop some leaks but they make a mess out of motors, power steering pumps, AC compressors ect.

As far as which ones may be better, I don't know. I haven't ever messed with any of those things.

stop leak

I've used the copper/aluminium powder to stop rad. leaks....and some kind of block sealer, I've found that some work some times /sometimes for quite sometime...All I can say is you have to read all the instuctions and follow them to a tee-------(te--tea--somthin like that)LOL...good luck I hope it works out for you...S.P.

Blue Devil?

The local diesel guy recommended "Blue Devil" as he said a truck like mine ('86 2wd) wasn't worth fixing the HG leak. Said it works sometimes, and is worth giving it a shot...
The issue seems to be getting the thermostat out. It looks like you have to take most of the left side of the motor apart. (alt, etc) just to get at the bottom bolt on the TStat housing....

Just how much stuff does one have to remove to get the d*&m thing out?

FORD MEGA CAB!!! is starting off with a positive reputation.
I used some In a 4 cylinder mazda pickup. It was dumping coolant and had a constant flow of white smoke out the tail pipe. Well, I bought some of that block seeler at autozone but i don't know what brand it was. It was mostly clear with gold in the bottom of the bottle. When you shake the bottle, it turns all gold. Anyway, I followed the instructions to a T and worked great. I drove it for 2 weeks and then sold it. Bottom line is, If you need a quick fix now, then It probably wouldn't be a bad Idea to use/try it. I don't think The stuff will hurt anything. My only concern was clogging the heater core. Im also not sure how well It will work with these higher compression engines either. Well good luck

Blue Devil is some nice stuff, though it is like $60 a bottle. It works very well, however, it is best used as a temp patch when in a pinch that can buy you some time.

My buddy used at his body shop for the poor customers who couldn't afford a head gasket to make it through till they could afford one. Funny thing they have all lasted at least a year plus. Some three years, but you have to follow the directions to the LETTER on the instructions, otherwise it won't work.

An 86 6.9 is one of the best IDI motors they made.

I would fix the head gasket in a heartbeat.

Your mechanic would probably tell you I was nuts, I dumped about 4000 dollars in my rebuild, and that was just parts and machine work.
I did all the labor myself.

I was smiling big time today, just had to blow some black smoke on a Dodge dude that thought he had a bad truck.

Turned out it was bad, but the kind of bad he had was not the kind he thought he had.

If you're getting rid of the truck anyway use it and dump the truck. If you're going to keep it, find a new mechanic and get the head done. Don't run it to long with a leak or it'll cost you a lot more and the more you run it the worse it gets. All the heavy duty engines I've worked on over the years this stuff never last, but this is my opion and $0.02.

Smile why the HG in a can trick...

Eric,
I have no intention of getting rid of the truck. I have a rebuilt 6.9 sitting on the stand. I am looking for a pipe for the ATS set up I just got, to install it, so I'm just buying time...

I'll post separately about the exhaust piece I need for the turbo set up.

Thanks for the info, I know this is just a band aid, and sorry for the

Mark
