Autosavant broke this story, the plan was/is to drop the ranger for a year or two, build the F100 on a lighted F150 frame this truck will be about the size of a dakota. It will replace the Ranger and the Sport trac. A Bronco is also planned on this platform a year or two down the road to compete with the coming H4 from Hummer, it will be true to the original with solid axles etc. Both trucks will have V6 power with limited V8 models available. The Ranger will be redesigned and return as an even smaller truck, with a focus on mpg.
Here is the link for the story. If I read it right this truck will be built, the question is will it come to the U.S.

AFORDABLE Bronco.. AFORDABLE Bronco..
Man, I'd have to seriously look into buying a Bronco if Ford reinstated them. Purpose built 4x4? Yes, I'll take one.
With the way these automotive companies are building vehicles these days, I can't see Ford building the Bronco correctly. If they do, it'll be way too pricey for me.
Think; 5.3L, 3.73LS front and rear, manual lockers front and rear. Oh yes.
They have been designing the F-150 since 2005 and was supposed to be out in 2008 but was having some troubles / wanted to make sure all of the bugs were out due to the 6.0 ltr issues. (they were designing it to be hydraulic, get 68 MPG, and around 350HP.) I am not sure what the final design is now (but the 2010 date has been in effect since around 2006)
No I haven't seen any concept pitures yet. All I know is there keeping the current ranger untill 2011 when it will be replaced by a 4 cylinder based ranger that could end up being a tad smaller than the one we have now. The F-100 will be body on frame mini F-150 with an off road ready bronco to follow on the F-100's plateform.

well, it's been along time since I've been to the main forum page. when I looked at the top it said 2011 F100 instead of 2009 F150, so I clicked on it. it has only 5 threads. when I look at who started the threads my name is on one of them.LOL I remember starting this thread along time ago in the dentside forum.
if the F100 will be brought back in 2011 I think that Ford should make it a full size half ton and keep the ranger. when they do that make the body lines like the 73-79 ford trucks; kinda like ford did with mustangs.

Hello my friend! I have to disagree with you on the size of the F-100. I believe Ford would do better by introducing a truck that is between the Ranger and F-150 in size and weight. Give it an eco-boost V6 with a 4x4 option and a manditory manual locker and call it good. If I had the money, I'd buy one.
Guys like me don't have a real need for a full size truck. I do need a TRUCK that will haul and pull and even see me through a little rough country, but I could do without the size and bulk of a real half-ton. A Ranger is just a tad too small for me.
I do think it would be cool to bring back the old school F-100 lines, but Ford won't. Aerodynamics, remember?
yeah, areodynamics are an issue. yes for me I could use a half ton sometimes. but for just mostly driving places like I do I'd be good with a truck between the size of a ranger and a F150 like you're talking about.

-nod- I understand completely. That's why I'm suggesting a medium sized truck with decent all around hauling / pulling power and built kind of like a Ranger Edge for rough country. I just believe a baseline "truck" should be able to do all these things.
Of course none of this matters if we can't afford the thing.
In another thread some have questionend why the f100 would need heavy towing and haulinn abillity. Well i respect their opinion in that it should be junior to the bigger trucks in all aspects but i can see the need for a midsiser that can haul a ton and tow 3. Also think it should be relatively basic with single cab and super cab as its main focus. Would love it to have heavy duty 4x4 with lockable diffs as option but that would jack up the price of all models in the name of covering development costs...
I think it really needs to be comparable to the new Frontier, and the Tacoma. I'm not that familiar with the Tacoma but I know the Frontier is a pretty slick truck with alot of well thought out options. I used to own an '01 frontier and it out performed my brothers Ranger in all things, and the new Frontier fixed what little was wrong with my '01.
I had a 2004 Ranger regular cab sort bed 4cyl 5 speed.... (My avatar) and it was a wonderful little truck... If they made the ranger a tad bigger but kept the stile was similar... I think it would be a hit... But they also need to stay away from uni body... I mean my little ranger was a tough truck but I wouldn't do anything that I did with that truck if it was a uni body...
I've been hearing rumers bout Ford bring back the F100 and the bronco for bout 1yr or so now. But I'll wait till I see some walkin and stop hearing a lot of talkin, then I'll beleave it!
Was at local Ford dealer today. Asked salesman about the 2011 F-100, he says they are being told it is still a go and that it will be marketed more as a work truck?

Ram makes the best work truck (finacial wise). Have you priced their baseline trucks?? Dirt cheap. They may be ugly as sin, but Dodge is pretty tough, and the price is right.
Ford needs to focus on pricing and work truck options. Let's see Ford produce a work truck that is competive to Dodge. Let's see a baseline F150 aimed for work / daily driving purposes.
