I went from a '88 F-150 super cab to a '00 Ranger regular cab. After driving this ranger for several months now, I don't think I'll go back to a full size truck. A mid sized truck would be perfect for me.
I had a Ranger in 2003, and it was just a little too small for me. Great truck, but if a F-100 becomes available, I'm sure it would outsell the Ranger and would let Ford compete with the Tacoma and Dakota.
I understood the F100 is supposed to be competing with the Tacoma and Nissan Frontier and be like 9/10ths the size of the F150 and share a platform like the Frontier/Titan. Hope they can make this one stick. Also, i cannot understand how they could not have cept the Ranger atleast as competive when it was the best selling vehichle in its class for what, 18 years? I understood that the Ranger is beieng developed in Australia for the world market. (Wish teyd sneak the 4.0l Falcon i6 wich closely match the Frontiers 4.0l V6.) It may be sold in the US if demands warrants..
A year or two ago Ford Europe released a much improved Ranger wich compares very well with any other pickup in its class.
They shouldnt bother with the Bronco if its not gonna be hardcore.
I was in the 823rd red horse stationed at Hurlbert Fleid in Ft Walton Beach in the early 80's, small world.
I got to Eglin in '88. Did comm for all the ranges. Great assignment. Loved the AC-130 night missions. Still have friends there and hope to get back to see them soon.

I can understand a midsized truck, but I don't think they should replace the f150 and I don't think it should be called and f100. Those trucks have too nice of a past to have the name tarnished now.
Don't worry, the new bronco will be hard core and compete with the jeep wrangler. It will have a removable top, solid axles front and rear, body on frame construction with a hose out floor.

to all the people that feel " cramped" in there ranger sell it and go buy a ford explorer sport trac. rangers should not be compared with most mini trucks because all the minis these days are more mid size like the sport trac. f100 is a pos , any truck thats a unibody is a pos like the honda ridgeline.
And I bet you guy's all thought I was crazy. I knew I didn't dream all this and must of got it somewhere ha ha. It wasn't the same source as MikeB 88, but the same info, the more sources the better. I got mine from ford world, a monthly mag for ford employee's as my dad is a ford retiree and gets the mag.

Have you seen any updated pics of concepts in that mag?

A small F-150 sounds like a good idea to me. Guys like me don't need a full size truck, but we do need real TRUCKS. In other words, they have to be tough, at least somewhat off road capable, and be able to tow and haul a decent amount. A Ranger is the perfect size for me (the bed a little small for my tastes, though. My only complaint), so an F-100 may be a little more than I need anyway. I do believe more people would buy the F-100 over the Ranger though, especially if Ford "sports" it up for the younger people, like Ford did with the Ranger Edge. Lower the rear to match the front and slap a sport front end on it, and I bet it would sell pretty good for the younger folks.
Autosavant broke this story, the plan was/is to drop the ranger for a year or two, build the F100 on a lighted F150 frame this truck will be about the size of a dakota. It will replace the Ranger and the Sport trac. A Bronco is also planned on this platform a year or two down the road to compete with the coming H4 from Hummer, it will be true to the original with solid axles etc. Both trucks will have V6 power with limited V8 models available. The Ranger will be redesigned and return as an even smaller truck, with a focus on mpg.
Here is the link for the story. If I read it right this truck will be built, the question is will it come to the U.S.

I think that Ranger will replace the "Euro Ranger", as the latest was more of an update than a completely new model anyway. Reckon that us guys outside the states will get that Ranger, (but no F trucks) and that the F100will probably replace the US Ranger. just hope they dont built the Ranger even smaller though.
