Gayle is starting off with a positive reputation.
Ac vent control not working correctly

When I turn on the AC, it blows through the vent, toward my face, etc. But in just a minute, it starts blowing toward the windshield, sometimes, it will change back. When I press the floor vent button it may or may not blow down air on my feet. If I press the vent control button, it does not change the direction of the air flow. Even though it is blowing cold air, it will not blow where I need the circulation.

Sounds like you have the start of a vacuum leak/problem; defrost is the fail-safe position when there's no/low vacuum to operate the distribution system.
