why would you want to change them? the front not a big deal just new roters, the rear might be a new drum or new axels depending on the axel (that is what it would take, now i dont know if that stuff is avalible or not but that is what you would need). but why do you not like the 8 lug???

He would be time and money a head to buy a 1/2 and either swap the parts if his 3/4 ton had a nice body or just buy and use the half ton and sell the 3/4.

when it comes to lug count i have always felt the more you have the better it looks, like semis look sooo good, 5 lug just looks so wimpy on a truck. but that is me and others might and most likely do like the 5.

My '71 started out as a 3/4 ton but I found a donor half ton and converted everything over to 1/2 ton suspension and sold all the 3/4 ton stuff for more then enough to cover the price of the donor truck!!!!! Wasn't too tough a job, mostly just bolt on's with the exception of a few holes that had to be bored to a larger size.... My truck is "retired" from work truck status to cruizer status, the softer 1/2 ton suspension rides a lot nicer then the more heavy duty 3/4 ton stuff... Well worth the effort for me!!!!! But then I have an F-450 Toter for a "work truck". If you're planning on hauling or towing heavy loads, I would stay with the 3/4 ton parts.....
