MUST READ: Lets solve the rough idle problem!!!!

It's time that all the people that have posted on the rough idle problem try to solve this problem. If Ford can not find a problem when we take our trucks in for repairs, then it is our job to make Ford Motor Company aware of the ongoing problem so they can find what's causing it and fix it.

Somebody that knows how to get a problem turned into a recall needs to post a response and tell all of us what to do. Then, of course, we all need to follow through and do what's needed. There are thousands of us experiencing this problem, and we must have closure to this problem. Everyone has wonderful ideas on fixes for the problem and for about 2% it works, but the ideas on fixing the rough idle doesn't work for 98% of us. Lets get as many posts as possible from people that are experiencing this problem.

I plan on informing my dealer about this website and the posts that have been made in regards to the rough idle problem. I have also heard that we can call the NHTSA TSB database at 1-888-327-4236 and report our concern.

We need to work together to solve this problem. Any valuable insite on how to start and complete this process would be greatly appreciated by all.

MUST READ: Lets solve the rough idle problem!!!!

This is in response to your question asking if you can go through the DSB and get a refund or new truck. The answer is yes!!! I too had a 1999 ford F150 extended cab 2 wheel drive w/ a 5.4 and it had a terrible idle. I fought with the dealerships and ford for 2 years. Does the answer normal characteristic sound familiar? I reported my problem the day I picked up my new truck. First after sending in my papers to the DSB ford called me and offered me an extended warranty. I said what good will that do if the problem cannot be fixed. After 2 long years and then finally going through the DSB procedures they offered me a new truck or a 100% refund including accessories tax and plates. This is not a 100% guarantee that it will work for you but what do you have to loose? My first suggestion is that you gather all your receipts and documented dealer service papers and have them ready and in order. You are going to need this as proof that you tried every effort to let ford resolve this problem. My second suggestion is that when the DSB schedules your hearing, that you appear in person at this hearing and state your case. The hearing will be held at a convenient office near your residence. GOOD LUCK with your case and don’t give up.
I chose the cash buy back and have since purchased a Chevy Z-71 extended cab,5.3 w/all the goodies for only $1000.00 more then my refund. Yes twice the truck plus 4 w/d and it runs so smooth that I have to look at the tach to tell it’s running.
