Whats under the hood?

This is a little off topic but as I was coming home tonight I got behind an unmarked cruiser. As I was waiting for the light to turn green I had a chance to notice the back of the car had a "Police Interceptor" designation on the rear trunk. The car looked like it was built on the Crown Vic chassis, it also looked fairly new.
Does any body know what they stuck under the hood? I was just curious knowing in the past the engines have always been some monstrous kick ass motor.

Really they are not much different from the regular crown vics. from 92-97 the engines were no different at all. all the 92 and up have a better suspenion, beter seats, and of course the speed limiter in the ECM kicks in at a higher speed.
IIRC the 98 and up regular crown vics were 200HP and the PIs were 235HP??
They were all 4.6 2Vs.

As a side note I have seen a Mercury Maurder as a patrol car. Now that would be fun.

I though they might be puttinng a little somthing extra under the hood of the new ones if they are acutally marking them. As for the Marauder.. a guy at work told me he saw an old grey pick up this past weekend with the low profile lights and Highway patrol stickers on it watching traffic. I'd say they are getting a little trickier lately./
