2.9 Rebuild Questions (ASAP) as it's going to happen this week.

Okay the little 2.9 is about ready to bite the dust. It has no oil pressure after about 5 miles of driving. Nobody on here seemed to mention it, so let me ask - someone told me that the 2.9 is terrible about wearing out their cams and the engine will have low/or no oil pressure at idle and low RPMs (which is my problem).

So here we go:

1) Where might I find a decent priced camshaft for this?
2) Should I replace any bearings when replacing the cam?
3) Lifters are getting replaced, anything else I should do at same time?

OH - can the cam be removed without removing the engine from the chassis, or will it have to be lifted?

If it has to be lifted, that sounds like a good time to do water pump and oil pump...

LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT - I don't know how much all of this will cost, but would I be better off, just purchasing a new engine from Discount Auto Parts or Auto Zone or someone like that?

I'll be honest, I don't really have $1200 plus labor for a new engine, and need to get this back on the road for a little while - but what are all of your thoughts on this --- moderator? I'm interesting in hearing your comments on this.

Thanks.

OH ONE LAST THING - Anyone in the N.Georgia area that knows where any good salvage/junk yards are?

You do not have to pull the engine but you will have to remove the raditor and all the front trim to remove the cam without pulling the engine.
