Towing in 2nd gear!

I'm just wondering how many have towed for any extended periods in 2nd gear (4R100). I recently purchaced a newer larger boat which I pull in tandem behind by camper and found a few situations over the weekend where I had to drive between 40-55mph into a 20-40mph head/side wind and 3rd gear at less than 2k rpms just couldn't get the job done. I shifted the ol girl into second and held it there. I ran it this way for 30-45 mins twice over the weekend and other than a very dismal fuel mileage it seemed to work just fine and was nice to have lots of power on tap when heading up a few of the larger hills.

I am just wondering if I can damage any thing doing this? The RPMs ranged between 2,800ish and 3,400ish and not a single one of my gauages so much as moved (not that there worth a hoot anyway). Last question does the TC stay locked in second? I am almost sure it does otherwise I would have fried my trany but I just thought I'd ask.

Thanks

benr0 is starting off with a positive reputation.
Done on that on several occasions myself past few years. Ain't got no problems from it.
These V10's you can just be wound up, and let um go with no problems.

The torque converter can lock in second gear if your foot is far enough into the throttle.

No problem towing in 2nd. I pushed my truck on I81 towing last weekend up a constant steep grade that must have been at least 3-4miles long, 75-80mph in 2nd over 4300rpm, no problems. The engine will rev high all day if need. Watch the trans temp though and installing a larger cooler is a good idea. My trans temp jumped 10 deegrees after about 15 mins of constant climbing, but the highest temp was 161 deg F. The TC will lock up.
