Help identify my old 4 cyl. Ford engine--Please.
I have a 47 Wyllis CJ2A that came with some sort of a 4 cyl. Ford motor that is not original. I think that it is a 2000 cc and from something like a 72 - 76 Pinto, Capri, Maverick or similiar, but I do not know for sure. Nobody seems to be able to help me identify it. I need a new clutch, pplate, bearing, rear seal, etc but without knowing what it is out of, nobody these days can seem to help me with any parts. I have the engine out now so I can look anywhere, but the numbers I have found so far do not help any of the parts store people.
Where can I find the correct block numbers to track it down.
And how do I do that. Also, the clutch is 8.5" with 10 splines and a small shaft, 15/16" or so, and the parts supply stores say that no 4 cyl Ford motor ever came like that. Are they correct, could the clutch have to match the old Wyllis shaft and then use the newer Ford pressure plate, etc. or do they just not know ? I don't know if it helps, but the bolts are metric. Sure would appreciate any help any of you could provide.
Thank you, Nat Harris Gnat@TheBest.Net

I thought I answered this one...
But here goes...
You may have a 2.0L from an early Capri,
if it has an overhead cam, easiest way
to tell, the intake manifolds two outer
runners curve to meet the head, and uses
a motorcraft 5200 2bbl carb.
You may also have a 2.3L that was used
in Mustangs, Rangers, Capris and a few
other cars as well, it's intake manifolds
two outer runners are a straight shot
from the carb to the port, and also uses
the 5200 carb.
The other engine it may be is the Kent
1.6L, which is a push rod engine...
that was used in the early Capri
('70 & '71), Fiesta, and Cortina, there
are two types, one has the intake and
exhaust on the same side of the head,
the other is a cross flow. So, the real
question is, Is it an OHC??
