What's everyone's gas mileage?

I've got a 1998 2.5L 2WD reg cab, and I average about 22mpg. I get about 24mpg highway on a good day. I installed cold air induction with a 6" K&N cone filter and I have a tonneau cover. Both should help. I think that may be below stock specs, but it could just be the crppy gas in NE Ohio... -Kevin

I don't know what my mileage is but how much did you pay for that cold air intake? I really want one of those things, as well as a tonneau cover. How much did you pay for both?

What's everyone's gas mileage?

Well, my cold air induction is actually home made. I spent about $20 out the door and it works out well. Plus it has an amazing sound when I floor it. I bought a 6" K&N cone filter (dented from Summit Racing clearence room), a 3" 90 degree bend PVC pipe, some dryer tube, insulation, and silicone caulk. I hooked up my mass air flow sensor to the top of the filter, then sealed it off. Then I attach the PVC pipe to the MAS. Then I wrapped insulation around the stock air tube and slipped the dryer tube over that. Once that was on, I hooked up the filter assembly to the stock air tube and slit the insualtion all the way to the MAS. Then I ripped out the lower half of my stock air box. The cone filter is where my air box used to be and it is in the direct path of incomming cold air. Now I'm send nothing but cold air into my throttle body. The stock air tube would get so hot from the engine, thus heating up the air and sending hot air to my throttle body, but now it is completly insulated. Try that. As for the tonneau cover, I bought it brand new off eBay from a dealer. I have a Lund Premier cover which I highly recomend. Lund is a company that has really taken care of me. I ran into some trouble with water collecting on my cover, and the sent me a 3rd bow to fix it competley free. Then then send me a whole new set of snaps because one of mine got dented. They have a 5 year warranty on the cover, and lifetime on the frame. I spent $127.50 for the cover + $22.50 for shipping. They weigh 30 something pounds and are 6 feet long. I checked with some dealers and the same exact cover I bought costs $220 retail, so I saved $70. Check it out. eBay usually has about 10-15 for sale at all times. I don't recomend buying a used one though. They take a lot of abuse in the sun and can fade and stretch out. Good luck. -Kevin

What's everyone's gas mileage?

I have a '93 2wd reg cab with 2.3L / 5 speed that has 132,000 miles on it. I drove it from the Detroit area to Kentucky and back last week and averaged 29 mpg for the trip. No complaints here. That's 132,000 miles of changing the oil every 3000 miles with whatever 10w-30 oil is on sale at the time. Even use the dreaded Fram filters! Runs like a top. I just had it emissions tested and it passed with flying colours. Now...if I can just get that clutch slave cylinder fixed.....

What's everyone's gas mileage?

I have a 2002 RangerXL w/ 2.6L 5spd. reg. cab and get between 27-30 mpg on a regular basis. It's all stock mainly because I haven't got the time to look for any upgrades. The last time I did look around nobody had anything for the 2002 models yet. If anybody knows of a cold air intake, header, & exhaust for the 2002 2.3 please let me know.

What's everyone's gas mileage?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Aug-02 AT 06:38 PM (EST)]My '91 x-cab, 2wd, 5-speed has had a best of 502 miles (hwy/cty combined) in the Texas heat, air conditioner on....that's all I would go before filling up 'cuz I ain't pushing it in the heat. The tank is of 20 gallon capacity, not bad for 198k miles.

What's everyone's gas mileage?

ATT:::: XLT4BANGGER

A home made intake is great but as soon as the pvc pipe starts to get old and release the gas from the pvc into the engine time for a new engine... I had one on my 88 ranger I learned the hard way. Just so you can't say I didn't say so. Go to discount for $45 get one from a honda civic.. fit's the same.
