N0 odo / speedo indication when warm

Newbe and stumped! Replaced VSS/ABS sensor 97 4X4 E4OD Trans ABS lamp indication looks normal The only fault code is loss of speed sensor singal Checked wiring connections and overall condition looks OK. The speedo works when its cold but after driving 10 miles a shuting it down at restart no speed or odo indication. Of course this puts the tranny in limp mode. I have the factory manuals But it doesn't have the diesel wiring diagrams. I'm starting to think Faulty PSOM or PCM any ideas?
Thanks Bill

I've noticed on my truck that I occasionally have the speedo / odo problem when I'm running in wet conditions.

Is this happening during wet conditions? Did a pin get bent? Did you use dielectric grease on your connections? You said, "Checked wiring connections and overall condition looks OK." Did you check your wires with a VOM? Or did you only do a visual inspection?

You might have some broken wires between the speed sensor on the rear diff and speedo at the front.

And welcome to

Just a visual wiring inspection Pulled apart most connectors and no signs of any water damage I took it for a ride down washboard roads and off road to see if I could jar any loose connections into creating the failure. Nothing happened. Speedo was rock steady It seems to fail only after shut down when warm and during warm weather?
Thanks for the help
Bill

Checked the wiring to the instrument panel .03 ohms From the VSS All wiring and grounds look good. Removed the Instrument panel and found the speedo works for about a mile after moving the panel around Cleaned harness to instument panel contacts No help A rebuilt instrument panel from Ford is on its way $280. for a rebuilt panel. Wish me luck

You can buy complete clusters for way, way less than that! I bought one for my old 95 gasser for $120 and I paid a premium to get one that had almost exactly as many miles as my truck. I've never heard of a problem quite like you are having, my best guess is your PSOM is giving up the ghost.

A WAG would be electronics getting overheated and shutting down.
