302 Cam

Looking for a good cam for my truck.......so far on my truck I've got GT40 heads ported exhaust side 1.7 rr's and gasket matched intake.......with some open exhaust and modified intake....any ideas?I'd liek to keep the rr's and use the nastiest cam I can...lookin for a bit of a lopey idle but nothing way too radical...oh yea...I've got mass air too.also, what else would I need to upgrade before i did a MAF sensor?I'm assuming if I swapped that out that it would complement my 56MM Twin Blade TB????Thanks.

Your motor a '92 or '94? You're going to run into valve spring bind issues with a lot of the cams that have 0.500" lift built in, not to mention P-V clearance issues if you use one with too much duration. Do you want as much peak HP as possible or do you want a more balanced powerband? How does the truck run now with what you have.. BTW?

the truck is a 95...so if I run into bind issues would a spring kit compensate for that? The P-V clearance is one thing I'mworried about since I still want to keep my 1.7's.I'd like a little more low end torque but enough to keep up when I'm high in the rp'ms so i guess all the way across the board with a lil more torque.Runs real good right now......it has alright torque but still not what I'm looking for...I'm also going to be putting Longtubes on her soon .....what I plan on doing after this cam is the tranny...it's an AODE and the 3rd gear kills me in a race.

The 5.0 is not going to be a monster at low rpms.. there's not much you can do about that, though the longtubes will certainly help. If you want a cam that gives you a muscle car idle it'll have absolutely no balls below 3000rpm, that's just how it is. There are a selection of cams that will be a healthy upgrade over the stock cam, the Comp Cams 35-349-8 is exactly what you want, but it's got too much lift for 1.7 rockers, so you need something like the Crane 364211 which will put you at 0.472/0.500" lift with the 1.7 rockers. If you don't have 3.73 or 4.10 gears you should consider that as well, 3.55 and lower gears are no use for anything behind a 5.0 except gas milage.

What are you asking about the MAF meter? Your truck came stock with this right? If you have a 70mm it won't need to be upgraded.

I think your truck will have a 70mm, shouldn't be too hard for you to find out...

Tell me about it. I'm stuck with 3.08 in my F-150 and I'd kill....er do something bad for a set of 3.55 or 3.73 (preferably a trak-lock setup).

If it's measured the way I think it is then you just need a ruler that shows centimeters and measure across the round housing of the MAF sensor assembly and it should measure around 7cm.

Ahh..take it off and measure it. 25mm = 1", so the inside diameter of the meter should be just under 3".
