You have a fuel cut off...also known as the inertia switch....in the cab, on the firewall, passenger side, just to the right of the heater outlet. It has a two wire plug on the bottom. The wires are yellow in and out.

If that inertia switch is unplugged do you think that would affect anything(other that the switch not being functional) like the gas gauge being off?Just a hunch because my inertia switch in my truck is unplugged.I think it might be a faulty switch but I don't know.It was like that when I got it.

It won't have any impact on the gas gauge or anything like that. The wiring runs from the fuel pump relay through the inertia switch to the fuel pumps. It could have a really negative impact on your quality of life if the switch is bypassed and you get in an accident. Best thing to do is get it wired/working correctly.

Before you get a new one make sure your current one isn't working. These things don't go bad easily, and I think a lot of times guys just bypass them because either they use the truck in a rough working environment and think they will trip, or they simply just don't know what they're doing when troubleshooting other fuel system problems. The switch on my truck was bypassed when I bought it. I hooked it back up and 20K+ miles later it still is working fine.
