Watch your gvwr rating on the 08 trucks!
3 weeks ago i bought my new 08 f-250 sd scab 4x4. at the dealership i checked the door tag info and found the trucks gvwr rating to be 9200 lbs. I figured the truck at around 6500 or so. at the dealer i paid for 3/4 ton tags for Pa. I just got my registration card and sticker for windshield a class 2. I looked at the registration card and It shows my light weight at 6250 lbs and gross vehicle weight at 7000 lbs im like wtf?? that means my new super duty cant legally haul more 750 lbs which includes gas, people and cargo. this is ridiculous. so i get on the phone to the dealer and talked to my salesman and start telling him this story and cuts me short and says I know your registration is showing 7000 lbs dont sweat it you aint gonna be hauling everyday anyway this is his answer, I say not good enough he puts me on with the title clerk and she sees the problem right away especially when I tell her im planning out of state trips and all with a 5th wheel camper. she takes matters right away and is getting me registration rated at 9200 lbs. that makes me happy but now im gonna be paying an extra 72.oo bucks a year oh well at least i will feel safe when i gotta pull into the weigh scales. just wondered if anybody else has seen this?

I hear they are starting to crack down on weight violations here in NC. I'm paying $200+ a year for weighted tags that cover our truck and horse trailer. I'm told a local Senator had his boat confiscated for insufficient rating on his plates.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have the trailer's plates cover the weight of the trailer instead of the truck's plate being responsible for whatever it's towing?

I just paid 76.00 for a year on my '07 F350 SWR for registration rating of 20,000 lbs. 9200 lbs sounds low to me for legally pulling a 5th wheel. I'm all new to this, so I may be a little confused on how all this works. My GVWR on my truck is 11,400 lbs.

Boots,
My dad just went through a similar situation. He bought his 08 350 in Feb. Couple of weeks later he got his registration card, signed it and put in truck. That same week he got pulled over (seat belt check by a local yocal) and the officer told him that his truck was kinda new to have the registration almost expired. Harrisburg had the exp. as the end of March. When he called to tell them, they said sure, send another check and we'll re-issue. It was a month before they agreed to fix it, and that was with the dealer going to bat for him. I guess I'm trying to say to be persistent, they do need to correct the GVWR.
ecky

Went thru this in the People's Republic of Maryland a couple years ago on an F250. Wound up calling 2 departments of the State Police, several people in the DOT, and none of them could agree on anything. Wound up writing the governor's office, who intervened to change my registration, and sent me a letter saying they did so, and to forward a check for the difference to the registration office. I did so, and marked the check with the registration number. They sent the check back saying they didn't know where to apply it. I put the letters and check in the glove box and drove all year on the old registration. At renewal time - guess what - the right GVWR was on the card! Go figure.

Safe and legal are two differnt things. Getting differnt plates won't make you you any safer. Also RV's are exempt from commerical DOT laws. You don't need to pull onto any scale and they would rather you don't.
