automatic for a flathead

I know that this came up before but I can't find it in the archives. I love the flathead v8's and is there a newer automatic trans that I could bolt to it, possibly something with overdrive. I know that there is a mercury trans that was produced during that era (1950's). Thanks in advance for your help.

automatic for a flathead

I installed a c4 tranny in my 51 F1. I used a kit from FLATOMATIC and they're in Salem ,Ore.. Speedway also has a kit in their catalog. I used the Flatomatic KIT because I could use the stock starter. It works like a charm. I installed a 9 in. rearend with 3.00 gears and I keep up with 75 mph traffic with no problems.
