Too much smoke ???
Ever since I put in the stage II's nobody follows me too close. LOL
Anyway, I have (at times) been trying to drive without smoking out the town. It can be done fairly easy, 1; put the chip on economy (No fun ) or 2; Don't mash on the go pedal hard. (no fun either).
Well to get to the point of this thread, I was under the hood cleaning and piddling around and took a gander at the air filter. It is a AFE and I think stage II. Well it is a little colapsed but not much. It was a little dirty also but not bad at all. I decided to remove it and flush it with quite a bit of water pressure. I had to let it sit overnight to dry. I decided to drive to work today without it on to see if there was a difference (I only live about 3 miles from work). Noticed a little difference. At lunch I went home and drove it like I like to. Smoke and all .
Well there was a decent difference at lunch. There was alot less smoke at WOT while she was whistling to beat the band. And the boost gauge smoothed out some. It used to bounce quite a bit when it got to 30 and above. It usually would bounce between 32 and 34. (I know that is alot for the factory tubo but...) Now it will surge to 32 momentarily then I gotta shift, and in 4th gear it won't get above 28 even at 3300 RPM. Am I loosing boost or not getting enough air, that causes this fluctuation?
My guess is the filter was either too stopped up to perform or the filter is just shot. It is about 3-4 years old and has served me well. I am going to put it back on now to determine which of those two it was after work.
Question: If I need a new one where should I get a good one at a reasonable price? I would get a 6637 but with the AFE kit it won't fit in the box. It is too long.

Do you really need to keep the AFE box? I would think selling it would more than pay for the 6637 conversion.
I haven't purchased anything from fleetfilters.com, but those that have got their 6637 filter cheaper than what I paid for mine at NAPA. You might try them for a replacement filter for your AFE.

Neal I got the aFe stage 2 setup as well but im no where near your power range so im not experiencing that. I know the replacement filters are out there and I don't think they are very cheap. (then again its not like the aFe setup was very cheap)
