New toy Used 1991 F150 4 x 4

I just bought a 1991 F 150 short box extended cab 4 x 4. This truck has a 3" frame lift, and a 2" body lift. Flowmaster dual exhaust, 5 speed standard and a 5.0 liter fuel injeted engine. It's got almost new BFG 35 x 12.50 x 15" tires on black spoked rims. I think I got a pretty good deal..... The Odometer reads 158,836 KM, I paid $1500.00 for it in as is condition. The truck has been sitting for 2 years, it had a flat tire, and a dead Battery. After getting the tire pumped up. I put the booster cables on it, jumped in and hit the key. The old girl turned over two times, fired and ran like a top. I told the seller that I'd probably have to replace the tire, as it was sitting flat for a very long time. The side walls on these tires are very tall. It showed some signs of weather checked as well, and It seems to have a slow leak in it now. since it would need a new Batt, considering the dead one froze this winter. I was able to talk him down to the $1500 from his asking price of $2000. The tires and lift kit ,which looks pretty new are worth more than what I paid. I think.
So after getting the insurance and plates on it. I'm about ready to take it home, and when I hopped in to head for home...... wouldn't you know it.... It wouldn't start. No power to the ignition system. So after fiddling around for about 1/2 an hour. We're pushing pedals and wiggling wires, and all of a sudden the heater fan starts up. And the power is restored to the ignition. Since there was two of us messing with stuff, neither of us was sure which one found the problem. Turns out it was me pulling on the wires under the hood. I found an oxidized conection that was taped up. Not sodered, just twisted together. That was lucky.
After getting it home I find that it needs a lot more TLC than I first thougt. should be interesting getting it all fixed up. The list of minor issues is rather long at the moment. But I'll get them all worked out over the summer.

My first Priority is a windsheild wiper motor...... When I turn it on it sounds really rough. Then all of a suddent the amp meter starts jumping and it's making really funny noises. I think the bushings are shot.
It has two speeds as well as delay on it. There are two plugs on the motor. When I phoned the dealership. they say it has to be purchased with a new wire kit as well. the wire kit is more than the motor. I'm curious to know if there was a factory problem with these wiper motors????? Why else would they suggest the wiring kit be sold with the new motor. Anyone else ever have any trouble with 1991 models?

What's a frame lift?

Sounds like it'd be a good project.

hopefully he means suspension lift Matt.

You might try the forum for the 91 trucks. (I cant remember the range off the top of my head. 89-96 maybe?) They can help you better with the wiper motor problem. We are here to help with the BFG tires TTB and body lift problem.

As far as replacement tires go...

Cooper STTs seem to be a popular choice around here (FTE and my home town). My buddy recently bought a set for his 04 F150 4wd and he loves them. I have no complaints from the passenger seat either.

speaking of cooper tires. i pick up a some S/T's. they ride like a cadillac. i wanted to get the STT's but my dad said that they are too beefy. i was going to put them on a daily driver. but anyway, back on topic, get coopers they last forever. i met this guy who had 40,000 miles on a set of S/T's and they looked like they were brand new.

Coopers are good tires, but who ever told you they had 40,000 miles on a set that looked brand new is full of ____. (insert word of choice)

They can last into the 50,000 range, but there won't be much left.

The tires might of looked newish, but they guy telling you they had 40,000 miles is full of it. IF you take care of the tires, you can get 50,000 out of them, but if not, don't expect to see 40,000.
