Oil filter

The filter is inside a canister that is mounted either to the firewall or rear of the driver's side head (V8) A 1/8" line comes off the bellhousing flange close to the oil press sending unit and goes to the back of the oil canister. Another line goes from the bottom of the canister back to the block just above and behind the dipstick.

Often they were removed and 1/8" pipe plugs inserted in the holes. A flathead filtration system only filters about 10-15% of the oil so a lot of guys removed them and changed oil frequently - every 500 miles.
