A "FORD" Holley ?

I posted in the right forum for the year of truck but can't get an answer since it is really a carburator question I thought I would try my luck over here.

I have an 87 F-250 with the 351 HO carburated. I was going to rebuild it but I have a couple ??s
1) Is it worth rebuilding or should I use an older Holley that I have but would also need a rebuild?
2)What are the vents on each bowl for and can they be capped off?
3)It looks like a 4160(except for the vented bowls) but comes up as a 4180, is this correct?
The carb was working OK when it was parked but it has been sitting for a couple years. I'm adding headers and an Edelbrock 351 performer intake I've had laying around and dumping all the smog stuff. The truck only has 74,000 miles on it and I'm hoping to use it again, everyone needs a good parts chaser/dirt hauler/wifes block and rock transporter, etc.......

they are a Holley carb designed to Ford specifications. they are basically the same as the 4160 Holley series, but have redesigned idle and fuel circuits for emission reasons. for this reason they are not great carbs for performance engines. they can be made to work, but are not designed as an all out performance carb.

last time i checked for a carb kit for this carb, it was around $150. but the generic Holley 4160 kit will work as long as you match up the gaskets.

they are a decent carb, but they were more designed for emission compliance than all out performance. probably better off to get a 650cfm holley or and Eldebrock carb instead. better availability of kits and parts for it.

Thank you both. Not really looking for a performance carb per say, trying to get the best performance I can as far as running good and fuel economy. I have 2 older 4160's, I guess I'll rebuild one of them instead.
