I WIN.....me 8....truck 0 I had everything needed to follow the tsb to the letter, however when i backed the plug out 1/4 turn to dump carb cleaner in the well....the plugs were able to be removed by hand. 2 hours to do all 8, about 1 hour of which was spent on the rear passenger side and driver 2nd back....those two are a pain in the butt. Anyhow....8 new champion plugs installed and done.

good luck to everyone else

I called a local mechanic to get a quote on changing my plugs and he told me that I should not worry about the plugs. He said that it is the coils that break and not the actual plug. I typically pay to have all my servicee done, so I am not sure what he was talking about. He also said that the coils will go out before the plugs and I do not need to worry about them until my truck has over 100,000 miles. I have 2005 SuperCrew Lariat with 26,700 miles. I just want to get some feed back t osee if there is any truth to what this guy said.

I would find a new mechanic, he must not know about the ford plug issues with the newer 3 valve motors

Duran333, with all the posts etc going on with the 3 valve engines I would venture to say your "mechanic" should not quit his day job. Unless you live under a rock you would at least know that there are some issues with the plugs, either not coming out, 04 and up. Or coming out by themselves 03 and earlier. Just my take on an issue that has had a lot of exposure.

Duran333, just read my post, did not mean to imply You live under a rock, I would look for another "mechanic". Because your current "mechanic" does reside under a rather large piece of granite.

I hate when dealerships say they don't know about an ongoing problem. They are just setting you up to take the fall, paying them the big bucks to fix a problem "they new nothing about". Blah Blah Blah, they know, just won't admit it!

Ohh Snap!

Well after being very patient I FINALLY found the rotunda 303-1398 ceramic removal tool on ebay for $449, about $51 cheaper than I was quoted by rotunda and helluva lot cheaper than some other people were quoted. Hopefully I can bring some closure to this spark plug issue.

I've seen it posted somewhere else, but Snap-On has come out with their own tool (similar to the Rotunda tool 303-1203) that is much cheaper than the Rotunda tool. $109 total to be exact. Not sure what the difference is between that and the 303-1398 ceramic tool. But i see from the link it has the tap for the electrode shield.

Here's a link to the tool on the Snap-On website:
FSPK, Set, Spark Plug Extractor, Ford Triton

Whoops... Actually saw it on page 4 of this thread! But now its back to the top for those who are just chiming in!
