Is it doable? O/H DVD from '04 in a '00 if i have head unit?
Looking at an '04 overhead DVD system to install in my '00 X LTD. If i have the head unit, is it possible?
1 - Is the head unit a straight swap from my current stock unit?
2 - Are there any concerns over the mounting of the overhead unit in an X that currently does not have one?
Thanks for all replies...

I would stay away from the entire overhead unit and ford dvd player.
I tried the same thing for my 05X. I bought the entire overhead unit with screen and dvd unit.
First, you need a new mounting plate that is under the headliner.
Second, you will need a wiring harness that goes from the DVD head unit/lcd screen to the radio.
The thought of removing the headliner alone made me scared.
I installed 4 monitors into the head rest and a dvd player in the rear area. It was so much easier and cheaper.

I still like the way I did my DVD. And so much cheaper, have 2 screens, and can toss it in the trash and start over if anything goes bad.
You can see what I did in this link.....

Thanks all......
There was one on FeeBay that i was considering. It even came with the dash head unit as well. I doubt it came with the wiring or the mounting plate.... I decided to forego.
Va.... I have seen your setup a few times now and have not forgot it!!! It is a very nice setup and for the price you just can't beat it....
In any event, it's not a big priority and was just considering throwing a bid at it since it was a good price. However with the notion of then having to go out and buy additional wiring and mounting plates (From in all probability a dealership at astronomical prices), the deal is becoming less and less of a deal!

Here is what I did.
2 screen that I cut into the rear of the front captains chairs. It was easier than I thought. I got the two Pyle 7" monitors from Etronics.com. They cost me $109 each.
Two headrests with Pyle monitors built in. Pull out the small headrests from second row and install these. Wire was a little tight to fit in head rest hole but it fits. Bought from parts-express.com for $269 pair
Emerson DVD player from circuit city for $129
1 into 4 mulitplexer and signal amplifier. $40 bucks Parts-express.com
Wireless headphones (4 total) with IR sending unit $200 Parts-express.com
6 gauge wire, fuse distribution block, rca cables, misc wire, one relay from Parts-express.com
I installed all by myself for around $700. Now each kid has their own monitor and headphones and I can listen to my own music without having to hear Barney and Mickey Mouse garbage.
