y block, V block, whats the difference

y block, V block, whats the difference

my title basically explains the question, whats the difference between a y and a v block

y block, V block, whats the difference

On a Y block, the sides (skirts) of the block continue down past the crankshaft centerline. The Y block is still a V. Not all V's are Y's. Now I'm confused.

Check out this cross section. Look at the sides near the bottom (where the oil pan mounts)Notice that the crankshaft is WAAAY higher in the block than the Ford motors your used to. Most newer engines(1965 to present for the F100) have the centerline of the crankshaft it the same level as the oil pan flanges.
