97 Non-Ebpv Pedestal

Question:

Is there a stock Ford or International non-ebpv turbo pedistal for our trucks? I've been searching online but have not found anything. Also, once a non-ebpv pedestal, new o-rings (always), and a gutted ebpv are installed, is there any other mods needed? Is there a plug-in module for the ebpv actuator which will ensure it won't throw a code? Is there any turbo mods which must/should/ or even could be done while I have it all apart? I'm considering an aftermarket compressor wheel, even though I've never had a surge issue, but just to be sure that I don't when I do decide to tow with it.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Hi. Yeah, I've used these forums a lot over the last few years, and finally decided to jump in. Anyways, I suppose that would work, cutting and welding the existing pedestal, ... will the pedestal from a 99+ 7.3 fit at all, or would I then have to change the turbo as well?

No the 99-03 pedestal is different, Taller IIRC. You will need one from our OBS trucks.

Welcome to FTE. The most informative site on the web.

Nope that pedestal won't work. Turbo bolts up different and it is about 3 inches taller. Cut and weld. Works great!

do you even need that ebpv valve on the truck at all? what is it's function, and why even have it on to begin with?

You dont need that, you can disconnect or gut it. the function is for faster warm ups or you can convert it to an exhaust break (works great). It was a SMART idea of engineer.

Okay, so cut and weld it is. I think I will look into changing the compressor wheel, just because I'll have the turbo out anyways. Anything else I should take care of while it's all apart?

Is your compressor wheel in bad shape? If not I wouldn't change it out.

I have no reason to believe it's in bad shape. I've done a bit of reading about this 'surge' issue, however, and am under the impression that it is because of the design of the factory compressor wheel. I don't do any towing, really, right now, but am looking to in future, and I figured while everything is apart I may as well replace it. However, I suppose I could look at getting a new entire turbo in future, and leaving the factory one alone...
