Clutch stuck to flywheel

Clutch stuck to flywheel
My 1978 F-150 4X4 with a 460 and granny low 4-speed has been sitting and I have not ran it in a while. Right now the clutch is stuck to the flywheel. If I start it up and push in the clutch it will not go in gear because the clutch is stuck to the flywheel and the transmission is spinning. Any suggestions on how to free it up short of pulling the trans/xfer case and taking the clutch out? Thanks.

Yeah this is what I was thinking of trying. Why does this happen when it sits for a short period of time? Is the clutch disc "rusting" to the flywheel or do you think it is swelling from moisture? Thanks for the replies so far.

I think its moisture causing some compound in the disc to bond to the flywheel. Only cure is to drive more often. I had three trucks parked in a barn over the winter and all three stuck. Took me half a day to get them all free by driving them down the road, pushing in the clutch and repeatedly slamming on the brakes until they popped loose.

Well I had some time last night so I tried to get this thing unstuck. Truck is not on the road so I just tried in the garage going back and forth starting the truck real quick in 2nd with the clutch pushed in and then doing the same thing in reverse. I tried like 20 times and nothing, it is still stuck. I can not believe how bad it is stuck as I gave it some pretty good jolts back and forth. Being the truck is not on the road I am afraid to take it on the road with the clutch stuck like this. Still open to any other suggestions on how to get this thing unstruck. Thanks for all the replies so far.

Ok, years ago as a kid, I blew up the engine in my sisters Fiesta racing it,,, well I had to buy a whole car for the engine, and the clutch was stuck also, we took a decent size drill bit, and drilled a hole in the bell housing, stuck a long screwdriver in and popped it a couple times with a hammer and that did the trick. Then just put some silicone on a cut out of a "soda" can the size of the hole and put it over the hole, and siliconed over the top,,,, ran forever and a day like that.

My 56 ford tractor did the same thing a few months ago. that is how I got it unstuck.
