Unhappy '06 Expedition Sudden Gas Gauge Problem

My wife just filled her '06 Expedition up at the gas station tonight. The LOW FUEL light came on after filling the tank all the way, and the gas gauge reads empty even though the tank is full. It came on after she left the station. It has about 31k miles on it and have owned it since Dec. '07. It has the 5.4 ltr. eng. When she got home, I went out and took the gas cap off, put it back on, then tried restarting - the gauge still reads EMPTY and the LOW FUEL LIGHT is still on. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, what did it take to correct it? THANKS for the HELP!!!!!

Try checking the fuel gage or the sending unit fuse. It could be possible the sending unit went bad (not likely, but possible). The fuel level sensor could be stuck too, but if it doesn't go away, take it to the dealership to be checked out.

Thanks. I checked the owner's manual and the 2 volumes of '06 factory service manuals and could NOT find a sending unit fuse. I did the obvious and got underneath to knock on the tank, but it didn't sound empty. I may just have to bite the bullet and take it into the dealer since it's still under warranty. I just hate doing that! Hopefully there are some more suggestions out there. On FTE, I also looked thru 40 pages in the Expedition threads, and 14 pages of the Electrical/Wiring threads and didn't see anything there.

If its under warranty, take it to the dealer so that the problem has been recorded. If you start messing with it, the dealer may not cover you. If they find the problem, let us know what it was.

At this point, that's what I'm planning on doing, again, even though I really dislike going to the dealer. I went out this morning to try to start it again, and it started right up, but the gauge still reads EMPTY and the LOW FUEL LIGHT is still on. The EMISSION SYSTEM light is also now on. I'll let them figure it out. I've also noticed that lately there is no control when using cruise control and going down a hill. There's no engine braking and the Expy just picks up speed. Maybe it's all related??!!

Before you take it in, check all your accessories to see if they function. Make a list of what works and doesn't work. Then we can see what the non functioning systems have in common.
